The Ecological Pyramids
If a key primary consumer, like the mousedeer (which makes up 20% of the primary consumer population), were to have been removed from the ecosystem because of the earthquake, then the effect on the pyramid of biomass would have been 20% decreases from each of the higher trophic levels. On the energy pyramid, energy transfered from the mousedeer to their predators would be removed, lowering the amount of higher level comsumers the pyramid could support.. On the number pyramid, it could be seen that many tigers and crocodiles, common predators of the mousedeer, would not be able survive in the ecosystem any longer.
