Since a lot of Nitrogen's reservoirs and processes are underground, an earthquake can disrupt most of the Nitrogen cycle. The processes that involve underground bacteria, like fixation and dentrification, are easily stopped, ruining the flow of Nitrogen in the ecosystem.
